Frank, I had the same problem with cowling cam loc
coming lose in flight! It tore the cowling about 3'' from bottom up in the
area of second camloc. I was able to rivet a backup patch on, but plan on
replacing the side panel in the future. Since I lost confidence in the security
of the fasteners, Solved the problem by drilling a hole at the lower front of
the side cowling about 2" up and into the nose bowl, installed a nut plate for a
6/32 screw, with washer, Sure, it takes a few seconds more to open the cowling
for service, but piece of mind is worth it. Dick L
