It might just be me and possible bad landing technique, or excessive number of takeoffs and landings, but I find Ercoupe nose tires to wear much faster than other tri gears (C150, etc.). Since it is you only means of directional control on the ground, and I consider the nose weight to be proportionaly heavy, I think it takes a beating, especially with side loadings present with crosswind operations. In other tri gears, I lighten the nose quickly on takeoff and try to keep it light after landing. The coupe needs it firmly planted on the ground (or the nose weight does that for you). At $135 for a single fork tire vs. $35 for a double, cost is a consideration. However, will you use up enough $135 tires during you ownership to ever recover the cost of converting to a double fork? Don't know. roger ----- Original Message ----- From: "Wood, Percy" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

As stated by others, Tim, you're going to be better off keeping the
single-fork. Consider:
* Most "shimmy" problems can be solved by tightening the "scissors" bolts.
* An Ercoupe is so light that most tires rot out because of the sun rather
than wear out in service.

Thanks a million to all of you who gave me advise on the trailer and rear
spar brackets. I now have a new question for you. My coupe has the single nose fork. Finding and paying extra money for the tire seems to be painful.

Any idea how to switch to the double fork? Is it a C 150 fork and tire?

Thanks again,

Tim LeBaron from Texas
