When my generator failed, soon after I first got my Coupe, I was given
advice that seemed useful. I was advised to take the generator and
regulator to a generator shop and have them checkout, fix and set them to
work together. They told me to always get those worked on as a matched
pair.
Some A&Ps will only send your aircraft parts to an official aircraft
generator shop (all A&Ps?). Some generator shops will not touch an
aircraft
part if they know it's an aircraft part. Our generators are the same model
as was used on tractors in the 1930s and on lots of other motorized
vehicles
throughout the '30s, '40s, etc. Your local generator shop may not even
blink at seeing your "tractor" generator. They also should be well
equipped
to handle low-tech generators like this.
The cost at the local generator shop is way low compared to aviation shops.
Let's see what the A&P and AI list members advise.
