Don.
Sorry for the late reply.
The corrosion you are mentioning here is ripped out of the context.
Here the whole sentence "
The wing walk box section was examined. The wing skin surface and hat
sections displayed surface
corrosion. The angle brace stiffeners were flaking and the corrosion had the
appearance of
intergranular or exfoliation type corrosion."
Yes bad corrosion on ... The belly skin surface and it's stiffeners! No
mentioning of the MAIN Spar!! The main spar is what is holding the skins not
the wing walk skin.
Of course for those who really want to read CORROSION, it will be corrosion.
But I can tell you that every other Ercoupe looks as bad on the skin as this
one.
Guys don't get me wrong. I am for a thoroughly check of or crafts as needed
It's only that I don't want to have the image created that all Ercoupe are
rust buckets that fall out of the sky - this reputation is something the
Coupe just does not deserve.

FACTS.
I didn't jump to any conclusions, Hartmut. I simply cited what I had read
in the NTSB Report. Under PROBABLE CAUSE: .."extensive corrosion...".
Under FACTUAL: "...surface and hat sections displayed surface
corrosion. The angle brace stiffeners were flaking and the corrosion had
the appearance of intergranular or exfoliation corrosion".
I'll leave it to you to draw conclusions, I have none , so far.
