Not so.

The annual for a plane certificated as Light Sport from scratch (which our Ercoupes are not) can be done by the owner, provided that the owner has completed a 16 hour repairman's training and gets certificated as LSA repairman.

You need all three conditions:
A. Plane originally certificated as Light Sport
B. Owner performs the inspection of his/her own plane
C. Owner is certified as LSA repairman.

Ercoupe C and CD classify as Light Sport, but were not originally certified as such, so we will never meet A, therefore this does not apply to us at all.

This only applies, then, to those new, $ 80,000 or so, light sport planes certified as such, but then only when B and C are also met.

Well put (I think).  For more confusion go to http://www.sportpilot.org/lsa/maintenance_certification.html

Hello All,
Am I wrong, or does this mean that an annual no longer
has to be signed of by an A.I. if the aircraft is flown by
a Sport Pilot but required if flown by a certificated pilot?
