A private pilot or better can do the approved preventative maint. items listed in part 43 if he/she is an owner in the aircraft.  Your number three item I've  understood to apply to an unusual situation where specific preventative maint. requirements are specifically listed in a type certificate.  I really don't know of any specific examples of that.  And then too...I may have been doing preventative maintanance totally illegally all the years...without the required training.  roger

I'm not sure Ed,

I went back to the FAR and from reading it a coupe of times I get this:

to perform those tasks listed in appdx A you must:

1. Be at least a private pilot

2. Be owner or co-owner of the plane you work on

3. Have taken a course in maintenance competency from one of 3 approved sources

anyone else read it that way?
