Stainless ‘steel’ is not steel, but actually a nickel / chromium (and other stuff) alloy.  I do not believe it is generally as strong as what would be considered ‘structural’ steel.

Are you sure about the strength being higher than steel?  I was under the impression that stainless steel is not as strong as "regular" steel.  At least that is true of stainless steel hardware vs regular steel hardware.
 
I imagine that stainless would be plenty strong enough for this application though.
