Stainless ‘steel’ is not
steel, but actually a nickel / chromium (and other stuff) alloy. I do not
believe it is generally as strong as what would be considered ‘structural’
steel.

Alan,
Are you sure about the strength being higher than steel? I was under the impression that stainless steel is not as strong as "regular" steel. At least that is true of stainless steel hardware vs regular steel hardware.
I imagine that stainless would be plenty strong enough for this application though.
