The stainless steel would have strength comparable to the original part. You can have stainless steel polished to a high chrome looking finish. My company does it all the time. It will never dull again and no one will be able to tell it is not the original part.

Are you sure about the strength being higher than steel?  I was under the impression that stainless steel is not as strong as "regular" steel.  At least that is true of stainless steel hardware vs regular steel hardware.
 
I imagine that stainless would be plenty strong enough for this application though.
