Next time it happens, try pumping some oil back into the oil pump from the filter adapter. Rotate the prop backwards a few turns and try again. If this solves the problem, then there is a clearance issue between the oil pump gears and the housing or the cover plate. Hot, thin oil isn't sealing the pump well enough for it to regain its prime. Cold oil likely is doing the job, but even cold oil leaks out sufficiently over time.
