Bob, I think you may have to rethink your definition of IFR. Out here in the Midwest, we
are losing many of our RR lines. So, I think you would be better off using the term
"I follow roads", that is if you ever fly in the Midwest. Just a thought!   Scott

Thanks to the Ercoupers who responded to my earlier post. Several
recommended the MicroAir but I chose the Xcom-760. By specs and
features it is a bit better than the MicroAir and priced about the
same. Both are Aussie products designed for the soaring and ultralight
crowds. Its depth will for sure permit it to be installed in the 7
inches behind my panel. And, sonofoagun is it light!!

In addition to the Xcom Radio I am installing a new flat windshield, a
vertical card compass and an "AirGizmo" which will go above the pilots
wheel. I'm removing the attitude and directional gyros which, in my
five hours of flight so far, have shown themselves to be totally
useless. We checked the air lines from the venturis and they are clear
[a mid-Carolinas note: free of mud daubers] so I guess the instruments
themselves are in need of overhaul. I'll do that but I don't know if
I'll have them put back in as I've outgrown instrument flying and I'm
going back to the true IFR ... need I say it? I Follow Railroads.
