Hello Coupers,
I see on the forum that some people are using non TSO'd radio equipment in their planes. An example would be the Microair Avionics 760 VHF that is not TSO'd. However Microair's Transponder T2000 is TSO'd.
Question 1
If the radio is properly mounted in the panel and log entry's made by a FFA qualified person ( AP/AI,  approved radio shop personal) would the radio or other equipment have to be TSO'd?. Simply, are we allowed to use non TSO'd equipment like used in kit, ultralight and experimental planes ?
Question 2
If one would be so unlucky to be ramp checked and was using non TSO'd equipment in our planes, would we be in trouble? or would we legal because we are not an air carrier?
I have heard it both ways, we could use non TSO'd and couldn't.  What is right?
 Thanks,
  Jim Palmer N9513V
