Hey Randy: As already mentioned, check for fuel leakage. I suspect that the
tangs need to be tightened on both wing tanks. Also, do not fill them to the
brim. Leaving them 1 inch low will not cut you short by more than 1/2 gallon. I
suspect that your high fuel burn is due to fuel leakage. You should be seeing a
burn rate of about 4 1/2 gallons per hour if you are running at 2300 RPM.
Check very carefully for slight stains. Another
problem could be that you may not have the fuel restrictor in the fuel pump, and
are pumping way too much fuel. The restrictor fitting, which should be on the
discharge side of the fuel pump, should have a plug in the fitting and a hole
about 1/16 inch in diameter in the middle. I know this seems small, but
believe me, it is large enough to do the job. If you are pumping too much fuel
into the header tank, then the excess is being forced back into the wing tanks,
and possibly some of that over board.
