are we really in 'coupes for the money?
well, yeah... and trike gear, side-by-each seating, electric
self-commencer (and the rest of the electrics) - IMHO 'Coupes are not
strictly God's gift with the glide radio of the space shuttle and the
climb performance of a freight elevator, this not a short field a/c - I
wanted to fly as a Sport Pilot and it was the obvious choice,
considering many (virtually all, I think) other a/c in the price range
(Sport Pilot weight) have conventional gear and often no electrics - I
still have no desire for a flying lawn chair (ultralight) - the Ercoupe
is a real aeroplane

PS- I still wonder but Sport Pilot is a proving ground for eventual
self-certification "medicals" (driver's license) through Private Pilot.
The FAA med. rules are often less than sane and enforced worse - if
you can properly manage two tons of steel 65 MPH on a crowded
interstate, what's the diff? As they say, PP self-certifies every day
other than the day they get a medical cert.
