I think this scheme will work only for ALONS and MOONEY M-10s with canopies.
I had the small mirror made by a local glass shop - free of charge! The size is all I can fit up there, 4" x 1 1/8 ". Note how high it is, which permits it to be slanted downward to give me the view aft. Wayne Wollard has a nice panoramic mirror mounted on his right glare shield, abutting the center one. That simply doesn't work for me. It gives (me) a view of the sky above and behind the ALON, but not below. My little mirror is not adjustable. It is mounted high up with a 2 "wide piece of heavy duty, "industrial strength" velcryo. The mirror is glued to a piece of paint stir stick, painted silver. It seems reasonably secure up there and I still have use of the canopy handle. The view from my sitting position is over the aft fuselage which I can see, then off to the right where I can see above and below the rudder and horizontal tail, and as far back as my eyeballs can focus. To view the same scene on the left side, I have to move my head a bit toward the center - not a problem to do every so often, or when I'm looking for a particular trailing aircraft. In any event, I didn't have to cut any metal, and the "price was right!".
