----[Please read http://ercoupers.com/disclaimer.htm before following any advice in this forum.]----No need to feel sympathy for me. As you have stated, Ed, you have never flown an ALON or a MOONEY. I fly my ALON several times each week, and I have over 300,000 miles of riding motorcycles in the USA, Canada, Mexico, and half a dozen countries in Europe. So, I personally don't feel the need to fly with my canopy open. Among other considerations, the canopy is a bit taller and wider than the Ercoupe windows(permitting room for my shoulders and headset), and the canopy rail is several inches lower (easing entry and egress). Additionally, neither I nor other ALON or M-!0 pilots reported problems with wind coming over the windshield into the cockpit. DON

Gosh, I do feel sympathy for you Alon/Mooney owners.
On the nice days in good weather, flying open cockpit contributed a pretty darn big percentage to the value of owning a Coupe.
And the wind isn’t nearly as bad when you have the flat windshield that flings the air farther up over the canopy opening.
