Coupers, I had brown stuff in my Alon A2-A tanks a while ago that was so bad
that little pieces would get
caught in the petcock gasket while sumping, and then cause a constant drip.
The only remedy for the
drip was to remove the petcock, hold my finger over the hole, brush the
brown flake off, retape the threads
with teflon tape all with one hand and then reinsert the petcock into the
tank. This always resulted
with a certain amount of Av gas runing down my arm along with the use of
several special words.

I think that the culprit was the alodine. Last annual, when we had the tanks
off for the ultra-sound,
we rinsed them real good and thus far have had no trouble with brown stuff in
the wing tanks.
The header tank is still a problem.

  Sorry if I misspelled "petcock".

Ercoupe 33A Bulletin specifies EC776 as a replacement for the previous
standard.
