You and Kevin bring up a very interesting question - what other option is
there to spacers?

 

Hartmut, you mention the taxi spring for the nose gear.

 

How about the U415-34104 Taxi Spring in place of the standard 415-34041 taxi
spring?  It's an Ercoupe part designed and approved for the same strut and
the same purpose (when replacing the original single-fork 4" nose wheel and
tire with the double-fork 5" nose wheel and tire), and it eliminates any
reasonable concern associated with changing existing oleo travel.

 

I've also seen reference in Ercoupe Service Memorandum No. 51 of replacing
the taxi spring with the 415-34364 spring on the Electrol or Erco struts.

 

Dang, I've got to run get my daughter from school.  You guys might browse
this subject while I'm gone.  

 

This line of thought bears exploration.
