The question has already been answered, but I will add the following. Confusion reigns because terminology is used indiscriminately. There is an "O200 Crankshaft STC" and there is an "O200 (Engine) STC". They are not related. If you apply the O200 crankshaft STC to a C85 the end result is a C85. There is absolutely NO effect on the airframe as far as the FAA is concerned.
For that matter, installing an O200 into a C or CD does not necessarily exclude the plane FROM LSA status. Said O200 could be installed under a field approval, in which case there is NO effect on the airframe. Or, said O200 could be installed without approval, in which case you have a paperwork issue, but it has on direct effect on LSA status. (Your solution to the problem could affect LSA status.) The ONLY way to use "affect LSA status" and "O200" in the same sentence is to say "You will affect LSA status if you convert to a D and then (use the Skyport STC to) install the O200". It is the conversion to "D" that is the issue, not the O200. Nowhere in the LSA regs does it say "Ercoupes with O200 engines are excluded." It says (indirectly) Ercoupes converted to "D" are excluded. Note that we are currently working to get approval for the O200 engine in C and CD planes that have been upgraded to 1320# gross. If approved, these planes will be LSA eligible. John Cooper, A&P Skyport Services PO Box 249 4996 Delaware Tnpk Rensselaerville, NY 12147 518 797-3064 Fax 518 797-3865 www.skyportservices.net
