Dan,
Be really, really careful here. I understand that owner maintenance airplanes can NEVER be accepted as airworthy in the US by the FAA, and even planes that have been maintained by certified mechanics have huge paperwork issues. I've got two buddies who did import their planes (a PA-12 and a Luscombe) from Canada, and found that the Canadians are not required to keep their paperwork records for more than a year, so each of their planes sat at their US mechanic's shops for over a year while everything was researched and refiled to comply with our regs. Every modification, all AD's, everything had to be done over again.

I am really interested in an Ercoupe for sale in Canada. AOPA and FAA make it sound like no big deal; but I don't want to get burned. I would send a knowledgeable person to do a pre- buy; but thought I would see if anyone out there in this group has any pearls of wisdom.
Thanks,
Dan
