I would appreciate any advice available about a problem we had after re-
installing the left wing fuel tank on my 1946 415C, N2738H, S3363.
After we replaced the tank it leaked down the fuel sampler, the fuel
coming from up near the tank. We later realized there was a counter
bored circle about.003 inches deep around the threaded hole in the
bottom of the tank. The soft aluminum washer we removed and replaced
next to the tank was too large to go into the counter bored area so it
sat over the area and didn't seal properly. We ground the washer off
to fit the counter bored area and the unit sealed perfectly. We would
like to know if every alumimum wing tank has this counter bored area
and any opinion available on why it did not leak before from this area.
Thanks. Dennis
