Ok that says it all. You are only modifying your C-85 . No need to upgrade
the airframe.

There is an easy misunderstanding of the O-200 STC's.

One is to put a O-200 crank into your C-85 case - no changes to the
airframe.

The other is putting an O-200 in your aircraft. That will require to do all
the upgrades to be eligible for the 415-D conversion including what has to
be done to the elevator.

But if your engine is upgraded to a C-85 you most likely had already some
kind of modification to the elevator trim tab.

See the Type Certificate:

110. Engines 12 lb.
Continental C-85-12 or -12F
Engine limits for all operations: 2575 r.p.m. (85 hp.)
(Eligible with item 1(c), 3, 4, 6, 7, or 8 propeller only).
Eligible on model 415-CD; eligible on model 415-C
provided the following are accomplished:
(a) Modifications specified under item 106 for installation of C-75 engine.
(b) Wide elevator trim tab (1-3/8 in chord) installed per
Erco dwg. 415-22031 or narrow trim tab (3/4 in. chord)
installed per Erco dwg. 415-22027 (or item 401).
Note: Conversion of continental C-75 engine to C-85 must be
accomplished in accordance with Continental Service
Bulletin M47-16, dated 6-7-48 and the oil sump dip stick
recalibrated to indicate full when sump serviced with 4.5 qt. oil.

Subject: [ercoupe-tech] Trim System

O.K. group... got a question about the trim systems in our 'Coupes: I
presently have the original panel crank trim system in my plane (C
model). I know that in order to convert it to a "D" or later model, you
have to put the "trim tab" system in (which requires me to change the
elevator.. UGH!!). I wish to keep it a "C" model. My question is: If I
am putting the "O-200" STC in
my C-85, would I have to install this "updated" trim system or can I
stick with my panel crank one?? I've kind of went over the memorandums
and such and can't come out with any clear answer. Am I missing
something?? I am partial to the crank because I have had trouble (with
other 'Coupes that I have owned) with the trim wire binding and
breaking. The crank has always been nice to me. Someone help me out
please. Happy New Year!!
