Wayne said it best, in my opinion. You probably don't
need the "ball" in the plane, because a coupe is built
to keep the plane coordinated in a turn, and that's
what the "ball" helps you do in a standard rudder-type
airplane.
The needle helps you figure out if the plane is
turning and the rate and direction of the turn. That
stuff you DO need to know at night, or in the soup or
even between layers. Some might argue that the
compass will do likewise, but the needle is your first
reference.
The ball is an "extra" that comes with the instrument.
You can use it to check the rigging on your coupe if
nothing else.
I'm not sure what the electrical load is, but I'll bet
I'll find out in a day or so.
