Eliacim asked: > Where would one buy an ALON rudder pedal kit? Darned if I know. My Coupe had the Alon rudder pedal kit according to the log books, installed in 1964 while Alon was in business.
The rudder pedals did control the nose gear just like in Alon Aircoupes. I found that controlling the nose gear and ground steering with the pedals was adequate but inferior to steering on the ground with the yoke. The only advantage to the Alon (traditional) method I know of: If you haven't done proper maintenance on your landing gear and your tail is drooping, the Alon kit's ability to turn the yoke into the wind is effective in preventing the upwind wing from lifting in really strong crosswinds. I guess there's one other advantage - it makes transitioning back to normal tricycle gear planes a no-brainer. But, its better to maintain your main gear so the plane sits properly on the ground and the upwind wing doesn't lift. I'd prefer the ERCO kit as designed by Fred Weick. He did it intelligently rather than just use the stupid traditional method. (Do practice ground steering carefully when you transition to other tricycle gear airplanes, though.)
