By the way, as a relative newbie, why can't such a crack be V-ground and then be heli-arced back into good serviceable condition? Supposedly such weldment is stronger than the piece was in the first place, or at least that's the song I've heard sung. (somehow I have a suspicion that any prohibition against solid repair goes back to the Feds) JBB
