John,

You have answered my question on the crack in both my left and right ribs.
I need the SMK-60 for both the left and right sides.
Do you have them in stock? and how much do they cost?
Do you take credit cards?

SMK-60 is an approved repair for a crack in the *rib* as shown in the
picture. The rib does not need to be replaced. It is not intended to address
any spar issues.

I think if it was an experimental, an X Ray may work and I might even fly on
it. But even that WAG and suggestion is way beyond me.

I really couldn't get a good perspective of the crack from John's catalog
picture. There may be an acceptable allowance for a stop drill, but it's just
plain scary to try and fix something that is against the published methods!

Ooooh! I don't know about that one. I could only imagine that if such a
repair was okay (and I don't think it is) the weld would need to be
XRay'd
which would involve more work than anyone may want to do. Need to gather
up
parts and pieces and spares when you have the opportunity! I have 2 extra
main spars laying around for the early (post war) numbers.

Ya reckon XRaying the weld would get close to replacement cost (isn't that
around $1.2K?)? Maybe if you took the spar to a hospital... I have the idea the
XRaying could come to the A/C, however.
