That CFI with medical questions needs to get a thorough pre-medical from another doctor to be sure he'll pass if he actually takes the medical.
Otherwise, he can let his medical expire and keep teaching as a Sport Pilot CFI, even flying as pilot in command in a Light Sport Aircraft. He should make absolutely sure he doesn't flunk that official 3rd class medical exam. JMHO Ed
