Actually, there's a whole industry of aircraft with a much lower regulation environment: Experimental Amateur Built. All you need do is build your own and you can have the regulatory environment you want (mostly). Some of the existing kits can be completed in just 150-500 hours while build-it-from-scratch planes can take way much more. Here, we are suffering from or enjoying the benefit of the assurance that our certificated planes meet a specific, overly-tested standard. Ain't nothing perfect! Ed
