Jets, maybe. Cessnas maybe. Bonanzas and such, maybe. But, it always
leaves me uncomfortable not to have a big look-see and grab'n shake under
the hood.

And, with the big wide open cowling the Coupes give us, there is no excuse
for not doing some serious nosing around on a regular basis.

Subject: Re: [ercoupe-tech] RE: pilot maintenance

Jim,
When most of us were students, and even now all we do is a preflight check,
which is a kick the tire routine. , Etc. One never knows what goes on "under
the hood"so to speak. It doesn't make much difference if it's on an outer
space mission, a fighter on the deck of a carrier, an airline out of JFK or
a J3 pulling a beer sign. Primarily we depend on the guys we pay do a proper
job of watching out for us. That's how it works guy (unless you're the guy
on both ends of the line. Changing the oil or tires ain't worth a can of
beans compared to what the big picture is. That's why the feds allow us to
do it. By the way we also must separate pilots and renters/owners Usually
the only time pilot/owners get involved is when we hear a bang or bump. What
else can we do anyway. It's called, "Reducing your risk. Works for me" Let a
radio squelch a bit and wham, the radio is in the avionics shop. Why?
Because you know what's wrong. We can look at things and say, It needs
fixing. That's a Squawk. "OK write it down and it will be taken care of it
when the plane returns to DFW"That's how the big kids on the block do it.
Let's cut the B/S. Most just do a preflight inspection and have "In God We
Trust" and off we all go. Oh yes! That goes for SP too.
