Tom,
Hartmut's attachmet should ease your fears. it is a step by step factory
approved proceedure for replacing your rear spar.
And it explains how to use the existing structure as a jig. (i would take ED's
advice on the smart level. I am a machinist and they are dead accurate when
calibrated.)

[ercoupe-tech] New Rear Spar Or A Used One

Tom Service Bulletin covers in detail how to replace a rear spar. I attach the
file for you and others that might not have access to the Service Bulletins
right now. Hartmut

I'm the guy with the rear spar that has damage. I'm wondering what itactually
takes to put one in. Does a guy need a new spar or a usedone. I talked to John
Write who is a complete --S! He said it takes ajig to put one in and he
suggested to install a used one so the holesline up. He then suggested me to
bring it to him. I then got a fewemails from guys and I talked to the guys from
Sky-port and they saidthe holes wont line up. I told john on the phone this
morning thatSky-port and a few other guys said that the holes wont line up and
hesaid he wanted nothing to do with this project. He said all the guysI'm
getting my info from just sit on the computer and never turn awrench and he
said I don't understand. I then told him I'm going tobring it to him to have
him install it and he hung up on me. I'mwondering if it can be done and how. Me
and my a&p IA will be doingthe work or do you know someone in the mid-west that
is capable ofinstalling one or is John Wright the only one that can do this.My
Boss is a A&P IA that will be assisting me and signing it off. I'mjust asking
because John W is suppose to be the big Ercoupe Guy thathas all the answers and
if that's the case he must be right and itmust be difficult to install. I just
want it to be "RIGHT".Thanks,Tom
