That's exactly what the DPE related to me last week, he would require
additional training and a log book endorsement, then do a check-ride
to demonstrate the slip, w-wind techniques, etc. He would then
remove the restriction...

I'm not a pilot examiner, although I've been a CFI for 43 years.
The point in demonstrating slips is to show that you know how to
set up for a x-wind landing, as well as generally know how the 3
controls work.
The major differences between flying a Coupe and a 3 control
airplane obviously relate to the techniques involved in x-wind
takeoffs and landings.
I would assume any examiner, if he/she does the job right, would
require a demonstration of proper x-wind takeoffs and landings.

Seems like demonstrating a slip would take what, 5 seconds? Or do they
make you enter a high final approach then slip it down to a succesful
landing?
