Hi Tom, After some research I would tend to believe that the change probably came about when Erco changed over production from the 415-C model to the 415-D model at the end of 1946.
I believe the ESM 66 reference to "early Ercoupes" was more likely to the 415-C model, and not to pre-WW II production.
