One thing that is oft overlooked is the shielding on the P leads. Those shields must be grounded at the mag switch and the mag switch to the airframe.
If you shut the mags off at 2000 RPM, do not turn them back on while the engine is still spinning [fast] as the exhaust will be full of gas fumes and you can blow it clean off the airplane.
