You are correct. No sleight of hand allowed. Besides, once you make it a D
it is supposed to be forever excluded from LSA status.

Get with a flexible IA who has a good relationship with the FSDO. Tell him
you want to do the 1320# gross weight increase, making it aerodynamically
the same as a "D" then use the STC to install the O200 in a D as acceptable
data for a field approval. The FSDO will have to approve it by signing the
proposed 337 in block 3. Then you are free to go ahead and install the
engine.

Subject: RE: [ercoupe-tech] Question for you AP types

Thank you John,,

The questions come from the thought that if I want an O-200 in my
C. I can have a log book entry made changing it to a D then use your
O-200 STC, and the next day make a log book entry changing it back to
a C. I end up with an O-200 in a C and nobody wiser.

But, I guess I can't do that. If I call it a C, the O-200 STC is not
valid and the engine is illegal.

We need to learn something every day.
