What I found researching my coupe is that when the CD's came out, a lot of
people in the distribution network assumed they were a 1400 lb gross weight
aircraft. A lot of W&B calculations back then were erroneously made
using the 1400 lb weight, especially upon the initial dealer installation of
radios, because 1400 lbs was the weight of the previous model, the D. The
actual gross weight used for calculation for the CD should have been 1260
lbs. Turns out, customers didn't like the D's because of the up elevator
restriction and not that many were made before the factory went back to
manufacturing C's which were renamed CD's. Bottom line, if there is no 337
increasing the gross weight of a C or CD to 1400 lbs, then you have a light
sport aircraft. If you have a C or CD that has a 337 increasing the gross
weight to 1400 lbs, then technically you don't have a C or CD, you have a D
which is not light sport. Confusing but true.
