What I found researching my coupe is that when the CD's came out, a lot of  
people in the distribution network assumed they were a 1400 lb gross weight 
 aircraft.  A lot of W&B calculations back then were erroneously  made 
using the 1400 lb weight, especially upon the initial dealer installation  of 
radios, because 1400 lbs was the weight of  the previous  model,  the D.  The 
actual gross weight used for calculation for  the CD should have been 1260 
lbs.  Turns out, customers didn't like  the D's because of the up elevator 
restriction and not that many were made  before the factory went back to 
manufacturing C's which were renamed  CD's.  Bottom line, if there is no 337 
increasing the gross weight of a C  or CD to 1400 lbs, then you have a light 
sport aircraft.  If you have a C  or CD that has a 337 increasing the gross 
weight to 1400 lbs, then technically  you don't have a C or CD, you have a D 
which is not light sport.  Confusing  but true.
