I would bet it is identical to my 296. I will go thru the steps in order: When turned on you have a list of items along the left side, scroll down to Display. Click on that and go to Color Mode. Toggle that, you have the choice of day, night, or auto. Click on Night and you are there. A little confusing the first time, but not too bad really.
Got curious, and my C96 will do the same damn thing - in my case, Menu -> Main Menu, which has Setup (go there), then -> Display and it offers Display Mode, which offers Daytime, Nighttime and Auto (which I've been using).
