The reasoning behind what you were told in Oshkosh, is that if you have a
Stromberg Carb, it has no accelerate pump like the Marvel does, The reason for
not priming before engine turns, is because you are pumping gas into the intake
that will run to the carb because there is no suction going on to suck the gas
to the cylinders, Priming before turning the engine can be very unsafe in cold
weather or cooler climates. All you have to have is a engine cough over primed,
and you will have a carb fire. The Oshkosh info is most correct.

Socialism will eventually run out of other peoples money.

At Oshkosh during the Ercoupe maintenance session the best method of starting a
Coupe was described as: slow back when pulling primer out; push in more
rapidly; slow back again; engage starter and push in primer simultaneously.
Works every time so they say (I haven't tried it yet).  I had been told that
pushing in the throttle once would help but the consensus at Oshkosh was that
it would be useless.  Don't disagree but can anyone tell me what using the
throttle during the start does?
