Mac,
With the throttle all the way in I prime 2X .
Then with primer locked in place-
I crack throttle about 3/8" and pull starter handle. 
It's as simple as can be. 
Of course OAT or other things may be taken into consideration,
Of course everyone has a special "so-called trick up their sleeve"
"A better way." Hmmmmmmmmmm? Sure!
 Do it your way or whatever way works for you.
