Use multiple chambers in a H2O2 rocket. I was thinking arranging
them like the cylinders in a radial piston engine would work. Three
would be a good number. Set them so that they joined the thrust chamber
off center so they would cause a vortex in it.
Some points in favor of multiple chambers;
- Throttling range would be very broad. Kick in another generator when
you need it.
- separating the gas generator from the thrust chamber would allow
optimization of the two different functions.
Optimum catylyst shape might not be best thrust shape.
- A nice swirl would be a good place to mix other fuels. It would be
easier to protect the catalyst from contamination,
- Firing one engine could warm up the engine at a great savings in fuel.
Some points I can't figure out on multiple chambers;
- could you get the engine to work efficiently at different pressures?
Can you have a variable geometry nozzle?
- would the gas generators interact, how?
