Minor quibble: it isn't *some* terrorists' MO. A lot of the smarter ones
definitely want to live to strike again tomorrow, although they sometimes
achieve that by working through expendable flunkies.
The trick of hijacking an airliner for the sake of holding the passengers
hostage at some random airport, which was a brisk business for a little
while, went into a sharp decline when the response increasingly became
military rather than diplomatic, and the hijacker survival rate dropped
dramatically.
