+1 to a confirmation alert. The problem with the answer "you can go back to the previously saved state" is that I may have been doing a bunch of stuff and if you make one mistake you could lose it all. The confirmation alert offers some protection against that.

But changes are not saved unless you confirm by pressing the Save button. And if you are satisfied with all the changes you made, you will need to go into the configuration page and save the configuration explicitly into persistent storage.
