In the end, though, you are working in RGB so defining an RGB color space should suffice.

Updated here to include the RGB values as well as as an additional orange hue:

I like the overall design and the palette generally. However, looking hard at it just now I'm thinking that the middle values for Popcorn, Atomic and Cherry are a little too bright relative to the rest.

The image you give (from Adobe ImageReady) has gamma but no ICC profile. I assume its supposed to be sRGB but there is nothing to say that. There's nothing to say your monitor is calibrated accordingly either so its pure conjecture as to whether the gamma is valid.

Yeah -- the profile should be sRGB IEC61966-2.1. And as far as my monitor, I have a 3 week old, brand new MacBook Pro, so assuming they ship them out calibrated, the colors should be pretty accurate.

Umm... no. I don't think they're shipped properly calibrated. Certainly that seems to be the consensus of the pros, judging from their comments.

If you go to System Preferences -> Displays -> Colours you can find the profile you're using and choose to do a calibration. You might find that the result interesting. Especially if you've got a glossy screen. That'll really mess things up.

On a separate issue, I think you should carefully choose the exact colours so that they display well using at least 5-bit color or a 256 color indexed palatte. These better suit smaller devices.

I'm not sure what colors will fit into a 16-bit (Highcolor) space... I couldn't find a list anywhere of hexcode triplets. I did however export a version of it as a 256 indexed color GIF, and there was no dithering.

Viewing an indexed colour GIF on a truecolour display isn't going to yield any useful information.

Connect your MacBook to a CRT monitor or TV and switch down to lower colour resolutions.

If you have any additional suggestions, or things you would like me to try or do, please let me know!

Will do.

Sheldon
