I have not posted here in a couple of years. But I can't just let this filtering thing go bye. I don't know how long etree has been around exactly but I have been on this list a long time and there have always been "unfriendly" things mentioned. Etree is still here. This is a mailing list, that is all. Are people really talking about filtering - a.k.a. censoring - posts? It is bad enough that everytime someone posts something that another etreer doesn't like, we get a day's long discussion about it. Now we are just going to start censoring stuff? Come on. It makes no sense.
Post: "Where can I get some Floyd?" Reply: "Not around here, they aren't taper friendly, read the FAQ." That was tough. I don't see the problem with that, and that type of thing is usually what happens (possibly followed by a day long argument from people who can't let anything die). The only people who should watch what they post are people who might consider having a non-taper friendly band on their server, which is not condoned by Etree anyway. And they should only be careful because they are putting themselves at risk. I don't care for filtering. You can't filter everything and you end up filtering things you don't want to. Once you allow a little filtering, you risk filtering on a larger level. Don't think that would happen? 2-3 years ago this would never have been mentioned here. Now there seems to be some support for it. But who am I to say, maybe people really want it. And on the positive side, if there is a problem setting it up on the server, I'm sure we could get the RIAA to help. This seems to be right up their alley.
