Good day all-
I was at a Big Wu show last night and ran into a taper using a Creative
Labs Nomad Jukebox 20GB player/recorder. For those of you who haven't
seen one, it looks just like a portable CD player (discman style, only
a little thicker). He had it set up to record in WAV at 44.1kHz,
128kb/sec (which is CD quality, yes? or is it 172k/sec?).
I think this unit is primarily marketed as an mp* player but supports
WAV and WMA too. I was just wondering if anybody's had any experience
using something like this. Seems at first like a fantastic thing,
since there aren't any tapes to mess with and you can transfer your
WAV's to your computer via USB (and won't have to deal with soundcard
resampling and all that, right?).
I checked the Creative site and it also comes in a 6GB flavor for
around $200. Unfortunately, the online manual doesn't go into great
detail about recording prefs and such. If anyone could shed a little
light, I'm sure many of us in the dark would greatly appreciate it.
Also, anyone know of cool little antitheft devices for portable DAT's,
etc? Too many tapers get their gear ripped off!

adam
