One of the greatest shows I ever saw (10/9/89, Formerly the Warlocks in
Hampton, VA) was on Yom Kippur. When my mother asked "what about temple ?",
I replied "I will be at my own temple" ;-)

Wherever he goes, the people all complain...

Being Jewish and very on tour in the 80's, I could tell you about that one.
The Dead had a habit of always playing Spring Tour during one of the big
Jewish holidays, Passover. A bunch of the Jewish folks used to get together
in the hotels and celebrate with the traditional meal of Passover, the
"Seder". Sometimes Fall Tour would also collide with either Rosh Hashana
(New Years) or Yom Kippur (day of atonement, a good one since we could be
forgiven for all our sins in one day, usually about an hour at Temple). The
Jewish folks would again celebrate that one together while at shows. I would
love to give Uncle Bobo (Bill Graham) some credit here. He always managed to
make some acknowledgement of the Jewish Holidays. Note a Frost Amphitheater
show from (sketchy on the year here) '83 where he wishes everyone a happy
Passover.
