In contrast to this message with ad hominem phrases like "IF YOU were
in the industry ...", Chris's message contained no bashing. In
contrast with general statements like "FACT: Metricom has not kept up
with technology", Chris's message contained straightforward, simple,
factual statements like "I called their headquarters ... and got
Metricom, not a referral number."

Personal attacks on the credentials of a poster are not useful. As a
reader of this list, my preference is for the measured, calm,
straightforward way that Chris presented both information and
opinion, keeping the two clearly distinct. Credentials (whether or
not someone is working in the industry, degrees, whatever) mean less
to me than the information itself, and I have more confidence in
simple straightforward reports such as Chris provided than in general
assertions like "FACT: Metricom has had horrible difficulty with
management".
