I would suggest showing off KDE Desktop. This will work to make MS &
Mac users feel somewhat at home and less "intimidated" with having Linux
on their personal desktops. For Newbies, I'd stay away from exotic stuff.
They've been trained by MS and Apple the simple is better (I'm reminded
of the old bumpersticker - Vote Republican, It's easier than thinking) ;-p
