That's what I said earlier, some files and directories under SuSE are not the same permissions and localtions as RH. Further, when Suseconfig scripts run, and they do when you make changes, the changed file will be detected and other scripts or setup components will likely fail. It may not be a big deal, but why mess with hacking when the default tools are installed? If it turns out to be a big deal at least he'll wreck the X installation or waste many hours fixing it, at worst it could cause hardware failure. Yes, SuSE, RH, Mandrake, etc all make subtle changes for a variety of reasons and as far as I know, there isn't a "stock" X installation anywhere, save what you download, make and install from tarballz. The nice tools SuSE came up with have a purpose are do a good job, they're just not the best in the opinion of some. > I think he's saying, that's the problem. Looks like he said xdm was running and he wanted kdm. > Just a couple things I like about an OS that doesn't rely on configurators > beyong vi/emacs. NO, Linux is a kernel, but the Linux system is an OS, RH, SuSE are distributions. - jk _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
