Really?  At least Debian says something like:

File has been modified by you or a script.
Would you like to install the new version [Y|I|N] ?

I was under the impression that one of the main gripes about 
Winders was that it wouldn't let you do things on your own,
(or it would, but Very Bad Things would result) but *nix does, 
and that in and of itself was a big reason to use *nix.  IMO,
it's kinda pointless to make things "harder" to make them
"easier".  It might save time at first, but when you have to
reinstall because all those little pieces that are making it
"easier" get whacked, well ...

Not so according to http://www.debian.org/.  I will agree that
the GNU/Linux system is an OS though.
