All IDE CD devices (or rather ATAPI CD devices) use the atapiscsi driver.
It's just easier to address all CD devices as SCSI, rather than some
SCSI, some IDE.

OpenBSD has great manpages. It all starts with dmesg. Say you have the
line "foo0 at bar1 blah blah", there will be a manpage foo(4) that will
tell you about that device (driver actually) and what it supports. Some
of these manpages also have a DIAGNOSTICS section that could be helpful
for debugging (or realizing that you're not the only one seeing these
weird messages).

I doubt the kernel would load if it were corrupt. Could you post
your dmesg or send it to me off-list to see if I can find something odd?
