Bryan,

You must have gotten something.  At the very least you should have gotten
something like:
bash: make: command not found

Please describe what your error message is.  If you get a whole page full of
information either post it, or filter through it and try to find something
useful, such as ....ncurses lib not found...

Also, is there anything in /usr/src/linux?  Have you installed the kernel
source packages first?
